REVIEW OF NHSSF'S TWO GRAND OPENINGS

Celebrating grand openings in Miami-Dade and in Broward with Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF), NeighborWorks®America's Chief Operating Officer Eileen Fitzgerald delivered keynote remarks on March 10 and 11. Commending NHSSF for its advancements, Fitzgerald touched on the housing market, foreclosure, and proposed federal economic stimulus packages.

NHSSF Executive Director and President Arden Shank stated: “While our central identity of first-time homebuyer education and services remains intact, we mobilized all our resources to innovatively and proactively respond to developing a system and services that would move quickly and effectively for residents in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure.” With a staff of 26 people, NHSSF delivers services that include homebuyer preparation, mortgage lending, housing development, real estate sales, foreclosure prevention, and neighborhood revitalization. Founded in 1978, the not for profit housing organization recently moved from a small building in the Little Haiti section of Miami to its present facility located at 300 NW 12 th Avenue in Miami.

Expanding its operations into Broward County this past year, NHSSF’s growth increased dramatically due to the epic foreclosure crisis throughout South Florida. The new Fort Lauderdale facility is located at 2800 West Oakland Park Boulevard.

Other NeighborWorks officials in attendance included: Sarah Greenberg, Housing Rehabilitation Specialist from Washington, DC, as well as Don Phoenix, Southern District Director, and Doug Gaither, Southern District Relationship Manager.

As a NeighborWorks®Network Chartered Member and a NeighborWorks®HomeOwnership Center, NHSSF is one of 245 trained and certified community development organizations throughout the nation.
