Comprehensive Homeownership Effort Adds Financial Incentives for Miami Homebuyers

Miami , FL – Freddie Mac, HSBC Mortgage Corporation (USA), HSBC Bank USA, and Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) today announced a countywide $25 million comprehensive homeownership initiative called SHOP-MIAMI in an effort to help hundreds of local households, including minority families, become homeowners in Miami-Dade County.

Responding to the diverse needs of Miami’s multi-ethnic communities, SHOP-MIAMI combines comprehensive consumer outreach, homeownership education, and counseling by NHS with flexible mortgage financing options through HSBC Mortgage Corporation ( USA) and Freddie Mac.

The full range of initiatives available through SHOP-MIAMI is designed to help residents clear many of the most common hurdles to homeownership, including a lack of information about personal financial management or the homebuying process and limited downpayment savings.

New homeowner Keisha Wilkerson remembers the day she and her daughter moved in to their new home in Miami Gardens.

Three-year-old Antonesha raced around the house, shrieking with joy and saying, “Which one’s going to be my room?”

Wilkerson shook her head and smiled. “My baby loves her house. She never wants to leave!”

Wilkerson, a first-time homebuyer, utilized the homeownership services of Neighborhood Housing Services. She attended a free eight-hour Homebuyer Education workshop and worked with NHS Homeownership Counselor Debbie Harvey to be pre-qualified for a loan.
