Local Couple Experiences the American Dream

After years of frustrating delays and hope gone sour, Fignolise and Anne Marie Victor bought a brand new, 4 bedroom/2bath home in North Miami. With homebuyer education assistance from Little Haiti Housing Association, the couple and their five children met to sign papers for the house closing on Friday, July 11th at the site of their new home on NW 129th Street.

The City of North Miami contributed $51,000 towards construction and $25,000 for down payment assistance for the home that Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida built, while Metro Miami Action Plan contributed $3,500 towards the total purchase price of $250,000. Originally started then postponed indefinitely through another nonprofit housing developer, actual construction did not begin until NHS stepped in. The lucky couple also took homebuyer education and counseling at Little Haiti Housing Association, providing them with the tools to navigate through the complex buying process. M & M Title Company delivered closing papers directly to the couple's home, closing the deal that eluded them for 4 years. North Miami District 3 Councilman Jacques Despinosse was also present to celebrate with the family.

"It is a thrill to see families experience the American dream of homeownership," stated Arden Shank, executive director & president of NHS. " We are especially pleased that NHS was able to close the business of actually getting the Victor family into their home. At present we are actively engaged in construction and sales of houses from Homestead up through North Miami."
