Haitian Family Achieves Dream of Homeownership
Jean Garry and Muriel Joseph, proud new home-owners of a 4-bedroom, 2-bath home, achieved the American dream. Working closely with Little Haiti Housing Association and the City of North Miami, NHSSF helped the Haitian family close on their new home. When Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida purchased the partially completed home from a previous builder, they fixed violations, permit problems, and completed construction.
Financing $76,000 worth of CHDO funding, $51,000 of CHDO funds for construction and $25,000 of SHIP (State Housing Initiatives Partnership) funding for down payment and closing cost assistance, the City of North Miami helped create the financial oppor-
tunity for the couple to afford the purchase of a home that would have cost them $245,000.
