Paint and Landscaping Day Advanced Despite Torrential Rains

With Miami rain beating down in sheets just 12 hours before NHSSF's annual paint and landscaping day, over 80 volunteers and staff turned out, smiles intact, to paint
and landscape the homes of eight low-income seniors in Brownsville. Grabbing paint brushes, rollers, pans, hoes, shovels, and other tools, volunteers arrived at their respective homes on Saturday, June 6.

Sponsors, Donors and Partners
Sponsors that made the event possible included Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Wachovia - a Wells Fargo Bank, Coral Gables Congregational Church, Republic Federal Bank, and Mercantil Commercebank.
Once again, delicious food came from Southern Experience Catering, Inc. and GW Bakeries, Inc. Our resourceful partners included Citizens for a Better South Florida, Miami Job Corps, and the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Mack Jackson, 79, and wife Mattie, 63, choked up over the fact that there were real people in real organizations who still united the community by galvanizing volunteers for helping low-income seniors. Retired since 1989, Jackson confessed that he could not have performed or paid for the services that NHSSF provided. Other recipients that day included Wilfred McKenzie, Everett Stewart, Mattie and Edith Cruse, Betty Gallon and Regina Williams, Gladys Johnson-Smith, Ruth Mae Mobley, and Adell Dillard.

Many thanks go to Sharon Williams, Event Organizer, who worked tirelessly to ensure that everything came together in an organized and community-enriching way.
